the SADDLERY

Iggywick is founded on the name of Toby’s beloved late mother whom the children called “Iggy”. Our original basket that Toby, and before that his father too, grew up in tragically succumbed to woodworm. We searched high and low for a new one but could only find frighteningly wobbly and unsafe basket saddles. So, we decided to make our own with a few updates to make it extra secure, practical and safe.

Handmade Iggywick Basket Saddle crafted from quality materials for young riders

Basket Saddles

The basket saddles are made for children who cannot keep up on their own little legs. We recommend the basket from an age where the child can hold up and support their own head (for gentle, slow and short rides) until about five years old.

The basket saddles are made in two parts. Our weaver builds the main frame of the chair with Somerset grown willow. Then our master saddlers stitch on the straps and make the attachments from West Country nut brown leather.

Sheepskin Saddles

Our Proper Job sheepskin saddle pad is tried and tested for children but also brilliant for those who want to work on their lower leg position, balance and posture on a horse. It helps create a wonderfully deep seat. The sheepskins come from Dartmoor and the felt pad, surcingle and straps are all made locally by our master saddlers.
